Heat wave

It was difficult to sit down and write a post this week because of the heat wave. Even though our air conditioner was set to ‘iceberg’ it was no match for the 40+ temperatures outside.

This whole week reminded me of a summer wedding years ago when a wise old Newfie said to me, ” Rick, I’d pay a hundred bucks for a snowflake.” I would have too.

Thankfully we received some relief from Mother Nature today – it only reached 33 with the humidex. Yes, it was a noticeable difference.

The boys had spent most of the week couped up, playing in the basement with Rica. Despite this she managed to keep the boys entertained and even built a cool fort with the basement furniture!

As Angie and I drove off to work this morning we were happy that they’d finally get some time outside.

And then Angie called me.

Colin had called her from the house crying. He had been running around at the park and wiped out on the pavement, skinning his knee and elbow.

Angie told me that he was begging her to come home and make things better. That Rica couldn’t help him and only she could. Angie said she felt so upset she couldn’t be there for him that she wanted to cry. She asked me to call him.

I felt badly too, but doesn’t that happen a lot when you’re a kid? I know I skinned my knee a lot and when I wasn’t, I was skinning my brothers knees! Ha ha. It’s funny now. But it wasn’t so much when my brothers ratted me out to my folks.

Anyway, I called Colin and right away I could tell that he’d been crying. He told me what happened and then I mentioned how I had skinned my elbow and knee many times. Colin seemed appreciative of this and I cheered him up even more when I told him that we would sleep in the fort tonight – with Mummy.

That made him happy and to a lesser extent, forget his injuries.

We're going to sleep in here!

and this is the bedroom. Mummy can sleep here.

I always loved to build those forts as a kid and built them with my daughter whenever she was sick and quarantined in the house!.
